Many couples ask me if I have any suggestions for songs to be used for a parents dance. Finding just the right song for a parents dance can be little trickier, since so many love songs are of the romantic rather than the family variety! Even so, there are still many good options for you to choose from here, and of course you can ultimately choose any song at all on our songlists. Please remember that you can also select a song that's not in a repertoire, in which case we can play it for you on CD right before we begin performing. With that said, here are some suggestions:

What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
"I see trees of green, red roses too, I watch them bloom, for me and you, and I say..."
A lot of couples pick this song for their parents dance, with its nice message and wide appeal.

The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra
"Yes you're lovely, never change, because I love you, just the way you look tonight"
This is one the all time most requested songs for the parents dance.

You've Got a Friend by James Taylor
"Winter, spring, summer or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there."
This is one we've recently learned, and seems like a great choice for a parents dance.

Have I Told You Lately (That I Love You) by Van Morrison
"You fill my life with gladness; take away my sadness..."
This is a really the perfect sentiment, and everyone loves Van Morrison.

C'est La Vie by Chuck Berry and Bob Seger
"It was a teenage wedding... C'est la vie say the old folks, goes to show you never can tell"
If you would prefer a fast song, this is a really fun number about getting married.

You Are the Sunshine of My Life by Stevie Wonder
"You are the apple of my eye. Forever you'll stay in my heart"
I love this song, and I think the words make it a great parents dance.

Unforgettable by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole
"Unforgettable in ever way... and forevermore, that's how you'll stay"
A very elegant, jazzy and classy song that everyone will be familiar with.

In My Life by The Beatles
"But of all these friends and lovers there is no one who compares to you"
Count on the Beatles to have a great song for every occasion.

Lullyabye by Billy Joel
"Goodnight my angel now it's time to dream...how wonderful your life will be"
This song about family is one of the greatest songs ever written, in my opinion.

Your Song by Elton John
"How wonderful life is when you're in the world."
Elton John is another one of those artists that almost everyone loves.

Stand By Me by Ben E. King
"If the sky we look upon, should crumble and fall, and the mountains should tumble to the sea"
A well known classic; "I won't cry just as long as you stand by me."

How Sweet it Is (To Be Loved By You) by Marvin Gaye and James Taylor
"I close my eyes at night, thinking where would I be without you in my life."
A very nice mid-tempo song that's not too fast and not too slow.

Lean on Me by Bill Withers
"Lean on me, when you're not strong, and I'll be your friend"
Just like Bill says, we all need somebody to lean on.

My Girl by the Temptations
"I guess you say, what can make me feel this way - my girl."
This mid tempo number is a great choice, particularly for fathers and their daughters.

Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin
"I'm going to be you you dad, you know I'm going to be like you"
This is a fabulous song about fathers and sons.

Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney
"Maybe I'm amazed by the way you love me all the time..."
This powerful number might be another good choice for Beatles fans.

Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra
"Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars"
Another classic from old blue eyes.

Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder
"Isn't she lovely, isn't she wonderful"
Of course I must admit I'm biased - I love Stevie Wonder.

Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel
"I need to know that you will always be the same old someone that I knew"
This is a really beautiful song, particularly if you have sax as part of the band.

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison
"You're my brown eyed girl, do you remember when we used to sing sha la la la la..."
Here's an option that's a little more upbeat that everyone loves.

You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker
"You're everything I've hoped for, you're everything I need."
Just like the title says.

A song of your choice chosen by us
"The lyrics in this song perfectly express our feelings about our parents"
Once again, if we don't know it, you can have any song at all played on CD.
